San Francisco International High School (SFIHS) is a small, public high school in the San Francisco Unified School District created specifically to serve recent immigrants. Their mission at SFIHS is to celebrate diversity and empower immigrant students to develop academic, linguistic, social-emotional, and cross-cultural skills for success. All students are eligible for free/reduced price lunches.
As you know the global pandemic has wreaked havoc on multiple aspects of life, especially for the underprivileged and those who live paycheck to paycheck. For the students of SFIHS this is especially true, forcing some to choose between rent or phone payments, food or gas. Approximately 25% of the students are either fighting eviction or facing housing insecurity. Additionally, numerous families have been displaced from San Francisco and are not eligible for the resources provided by the city. These stressors have undoubtedly interfered with the students ability to show up for school on a regular basis.
